Me and Writing | Selected Works

Among many of the things I've tried my hand at over the years, writing has been one of the few that has stuck. I've been doing it since late 1997, right around the time I met Brent Sasaki at the University of Alberta. It was one fateful night at a Tim Horton's, probably at around 4am, that it began. After having spent hours discussing our favourite writers and books, he put the question to me: "Have you ever considered writing?" That was how it all started. And for the next year, he and I spent countless hours at a Bagel cafe not far from the campus, sitting across from each other at a booth, heads down, working on our own creative endeavors. And it didn't stop there; both of us continued writing for years after, and are both still at it.

So, thank you, Mr. Sasaki, for getting the ball rolling.

There have been numerous other friends and acquaintances who have both helped and greatly influenced my writing since then. Most notably is probably Paul R. Gauthier, an accomplished academic, brutally honest critic, and longtime friend. Another notable is Jessica Klasson, another acquaintance from the University, who writes some excellent poetry and is in the process of wading into a music career. Last but not least is Dr. Monique Tschofen, who was a Ph.D. candidate at the university when I first met her. As one of her students, I probably learned more about the inner workings of literature from her than from any other instructor or teacher I've ever been a student of.

So, let due credit be given to the aforementioned if you like my work. But of course, no blame to them if you don't.
